Digital-born news outlets tend to be – by design – smaller & nimbler than traditional media


…As demonstrated by the latest report from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, looking at digital-born news media in Europe, there are times at which the deterioration of a legacy print market directly benefits digital pureplay news organisations… Digital-born news outlets are more prominent in countries in which legacy media is relatively weak or diminished… The digital-born publications in areas with weaker legacy organisations are smaller by far than any of those more traditional organisations. That’s in part because most tend to be – by design – smaller and nimbler teams organisationally organised around what the report terms ‘a distinctive voice’
